96 integra bogs on acceleration only when cold
Hi!, So my 1996 integra LS has NO problem starting and idling when cold, when I leave my parking lot about 1 minute into the drive between 1800-3000rpms it has trouble accelerating, I can feel the engine bogging and stumbling trying to accelerate but it doesn't, like when you are starting to run out of gas. It can last between 2-5 secs. It doesn't do it above 4000rpms. When it happens I just let go off the gas and press it again and it will stumble and bog but accelerate slowly then all will be fine. It can do it 2-3 times. It can do it when the engine is completely cold up to when the temperature needle is about 1/8th of the way, above that it will never do it. No check engine light. I have been told to replace my coolant sensor, I'd like you guys to help me since my drive to work is about 5 mins and it happens all the time, thanks a lot!

Does anyone have an idea as to why it would do this? Does it sound like coolant sensor issue?

After some more searching I have been told that my problem seems to be present only in ''open loop'', which relies only on the mecanics and not on the sensors like the o2. Does that make sense?

yes that makes sense, when first started after cool down the ecu ignores o2 sensors until they are warm or a certain amount of time passes, after that the ecu will rely on sensors to make fuel ratio decesions according to the rich lean mixture going on and intake air temp, manifold absolute pressure, to name a few....its true if the coolant temp is wrong and letting the ecu think its colder than it really is the it will send more fuel than needed or vice versa, sending to little if its showing to warm....and once your 02 sensors kick in te ecu corrects the ratio

a quick ride with a scanner will show all your sensors readings and verifie whats going on. or try unplugging the coolant sensor and see what happens.i believe there r 2 sensors, 1 for the dash gauge and 1 for the ecu... pull the 1 for the ecu.

thanks antrmo, I don't have access to a scanner but I will try disconecting the coolant sensor and see what happens. I will soon be doing a complete tune up as well.

Just an update, I didn't mess with my coolant sensor yet, I replaced my fuel filter which was about 10 years old. On the first day after replacing it the problem was gone, next day it came back barely, the day after I would say it was 75% gone, now, one week after replacing the fuel filter, I would say the problem is back almost the same as it was before. Quite strange, so it must be fuel related.
