95 HB overheating...
Hey all. I'm new to the board and I thought I'd say hello with a tech question....when I'm driving, the temp gauge stays at the usual position all the time and doesn't budge. Every now and then however, when i let the car idle for a bit the needle starts to rise and sometimes the fan won't come on right away. This is going to sound stupid but sometimes the fan WILL kick on normally. Other times however it won't come on until shortly after the gauge starts to rise. A few times it doesn't come on at all until the temp got almost to the hot mark and then it starts running.
I figured it was the thermostat itself that wasn't opening but i've been told it might just be the thermo switch on the back of the thrmostat housing because the fan isn't kicking on. Both parts from the dealership are going to run me in the $50 neighborhood for each and i didnt' want to spend money replacing the wrong item. Just so ya know I have a 95 HB with the D15B7 with stock rad and fan. Only add-ons are AEM CAI, DC 4-2-1 2pc ceramic header and axle back exhasut. I just replaced the water pump and timing belt last week with new Honda ones (problem seemed to start happening after i had the pump replaced). Coolant level is normal and resevoir is filled to the max mark.
I'd like to get the parts today and fix it tonight after our baby girl goes to sleep so any help as to what is wrong would be great.
