91? Civic Transmission question....
Okay, I have a neighbor with a 91 (I believe) Civic. He is not the most mechanically inclined person, nor is he very good at describing what happened. Basically the car won't go into gear. I have reason to believe that it is the clutch (disentegrated ?). 1 it has 28x,xxx miles on it and he claims it has never been changed. 2 I have seen how his wife drives it. 3 he is the original owner, so I believe him when he says it hasn't been changed.
My question lies in the removal of the wrongWD
trans. It doesn't look too difficult, but do you guys know of any good web articles or manuals for doing this. I will tear into my own car, but would like a little guidance when working on someone elses. Also if you know of any trans rebuild articles that would be great too.
Thanks.

just get a helms manuel for that car or call the honda dealership directly. the dealership will give you a number to call to get a dealers manuel. its basically honda for dummies. but the clutch job is pretty simple. i can do one on the ground with hand tools and an extra pair of hands in about two hours.
good luck

I'm not too worried about the clutch, but if we get in there and that is not what it is, I'd like to be prepared for the worst. Always prepared. Go in to change the spark plugs, be ready to pull the engine, LOL!
better to find a d-series cable tranny that isn't broken and just swap them out, rather than rebuilding the broken one.
Definitely get the helms. Honda for dummies LOL!!
Little FYI: When you take out the half shafts and have to use a pickle fork for the lower ball joint/lca, use a really bfh with the pickle fork. I think it's easier to have two people for this; one brave soul to hold the fork and one for the hammer. Also, pick up some spare lower ball joint boots. They always tear and at 1.50 a piece, just replace them.

Good tips. Thanks guys. I think I'll be toting the BFH this time.
He already stripped a lug stud removing the driver's side front wheel. I had to cut the friggen lug nut off for him. Unbelievable. He also once spent nearly 2 weeks replacing the brake shoes on one of his rear drums. He didn't know you had to back off the shoes so he proceeded to crack open the drum with a sledge hammer. It took him 2 weeks to do his side and it took me 1 hour to do my side, LOL! It's always interesting with him.

Forgot to mention: have a nice size breaker bar for the axle nuts. They are on at 130 ft.lbs so the 1/2" craftman rachet and elbow grease might not be enough.
