.9 closed, 4.9 WOT. Is something wrong?
I checked my TPS last night and got .9v closed and 4.9v WOT. I know it should be .5 and 4.5.
I dont have a check engine light or anything (anymore..since I adjusted my tps to the marks I made from the original position).
Any explanation for this? Could this hurt anything?
I was told by raene that if I did a compression test without flooring it, that could have bent my throttle plate or rod and maybe cause the TPS to get the wrong reading. Is there a way I can check this without replacing the TB? I dont really have money for that. I dont think that could be my problem, cuz the throttle moves freely withuot and kind of scraping noises or trouble etc. It does stick when the engine is cold, but it has always done that. I have a 62mm BBK TB.
Any opinions?
TIA!
Chris

try setting your tps to .45/.5 and 4.5 and see what happens
i dont know about bending the throttle plate or rod, i dont really see how that could happen. since you took your sparkplugs off to do the compression test right?
take the throttle body out and look at it in the light to see how much light filters throught the plate

I know it has been a while, but the car has just been sitting waiting for a new clutch and I have been working my *** off.
Today I took the TB off and noticed the part of the outer throttle (the part the cable is attatched to) was bent outward towatds the TB causing it not to close all the way and this was also causing the TB to stick. I bent it back into place and it doesnt stick anymore. It actually goes all teh way down to my idle adjust screw. The back of the Plate is covered in carbon. Im gonan clean that up before I put it back on tomorrow. before I betn the thing back into place there was sime light filtering through. Now, there is none.
BTW: when I was setting my tps, I set it as low as it would go and it didnt go any lower than .9 closed. You think this could fix the reading?
TIA!

Ok, yesterday, I cleaned the TB like crazy (it looks brand new
). I started the car and let it run for a while and when I noticed the engine was warm and the idle was still around 1700-1900 RPM I went to the TB and tried to close the plate by my hand and the idle went down to about 1000-1100. It stayed there for a couple minutes, then went back up and I couldnt get it back down. Anybody have any idea why it is doing this?
Is it dangerous to anything for the idle to be so high? IT doesnt affect anything other than idle (ie. driving RPM).
I'm getting kinda irritated at this...

No it isnt fluctuating. The idle scew wont go any further down than it is. Let me rephrase that...The butterfly wont go any farther down.
Is there anything else that controls the idle speed?

I did fix the butterfly, what I meant about it wont go any further down is that the plate itself is keeping it from closing any farther.
Someone on this board told me that if my timing was off my ECU could be trying to compensate by adjusting the idle speed. Is that true? Do I need to check my timing, or is this just a myth>?

Are you sure it isn't the throttle stop screw keeping it open? the butterfly plate itself shouldn't be stopping it from closing.
Checking your timing won't hurt, even if it isn't the problem. A mechanic should do it pretty quickly and easily, advance it a little if you're not running boost.
