Default 89 tranny case vs 90 tranny case?

ok i'm on a mad search to see what tranny case i can use to cure my differential problem. the diff rubs the tranny case and i shimmed it properly. it seems the bearings for some cases are different. see my post here: https://honda-tech.com/zerothread?id=160321

so the questions i have is this: is the 89 civic si tranny case and the 90 civic si tranny case the same?

note: according to http://www.hondaautomotiveparts.com the 89 civic si uses an 80mm diff shim and the 90 civic si uses a 72mm diff shim. so is the 89 si tranny the odd ball?

thanks!
