'89 Civic DX starting problem
'89 DX KA5MT w/ 1.5 SOHC 16V. This is the least problematic vehicle I have ever owned, but.......... drove to work yesterday (12 miles one way); ran perfect. Car sat outdoors all day in (mostly) steady drizzle. Come time to go home; spins over great but no start. No codes show on ECU. Underhood & ECU floor area dry. Able to push into shop; pulled #1 plug wire, grounded spare plug to valve cover bolt, decent spark. Same on #2. #3 & #4 are probably OK; got to be fuel. Primed w/ carb/injector cleaner; no difference. Sprinkled some gasoline into throttle body; still no start. Disconnect output on fuel filter, key on, fuel flows. Got spark & (I believe) fuel; getting late, wife picks me up, home after a meal out. Do some on-line research; ignitor is highly suspect. Pick one up Sat AM, back to work to do coil/ignitor tests. Uuuh, let's see what happens if I try to start now.......... ruh, ruh, ruh, ruh, ruh, VROOOM!!! Tickity-boo like nothing was ever wrong. Something got wet the day before and dried out overnight??? What? Thanks for anybodys experience/insight!
If it happens again, pull the distributor cap and wipe inside with a dry, [clean] rag.
If car starts, check cap gasket.
