Default 5w40 in a 5w30 spec engine.er

Has anyone experiemented with different weights of oil in their honda. In my '99 integra obviously 5w30 is recommended for all season use, I'm just wondering because castrol 0w30 and 5w40 both are excellent oils. I've been running Mobil 1 for a few thousand miles now, and although it feels nice once warm, I can tell, its slightly noisier and less smooth than the castrol I used before. for the price I'm switching back to castrol.

Anyone use these other weights, or should I just stick with the 5w30 all year round?
Thanks.

I would stick with a quality 5W-30. If you're concerned about how your specific oil or change intervals are performing, send it out for a UOA.

ive been using castrol syntec 0w-30 in my b16a civic since 2003 now and have done multipe HPDE with it in the motor. ive put over 100k miles on my unknown mileage jdm b16a. my current oil change has two track days at laguna seca plus two 600 mile road trips from LA. so i can confidently tell you that nothing will happen to motor if you use castrol syntec 0w-30 or any other oil for that matter. if your civic is a daily driver just buy whatever is on sale and change often or buy a synthetic motor oil and change it every 10k miles. always use a quality oil filter such as oem s2k or wix/napa gold if your going to do long drain intervals.

Good call, I use a wix filter now. The 0w30 is supposedly the german castrol, and very good oil. Apparently fairly thick when it warms up as well, closer to a 40 weight. I may just stick with the 5w30. We'll see what happenes in the spring. I've been searching for a place locally that does UOA, I beleive wear check in mississauga does, but cant get a return email. We'll wait and see. Thanks for the replies.
