Default 5th gear scratching

ok, it seems like ive been posting in here more than ive wanted to, but when i got into 5th gear it scratches, no matter what range rpm im in, it use to do it when i would be in high rpm around 6-7k, but i just drove it down the road and i was shifting at like 2500rpm, i have a gsr tranny and the car use to be automatic, anyone else encountered this problem before because i really dont wanna take it in and be checked if its somethin i can do myself

You are better off buying a new tranny. Cost wise that is, it just isn't worth it.

yeah definitely the synchro. either the mesh is completely flattened and not pointed and/or the sleeve is severly binding on the hub (scarred up) and doesn't slide up and down smoothly. unless you can swap it out or find a knowledgeable person to work cheap for you then you are gonna pay a lot of moolah.
