weird tranny problem .. 2nd , 3rd , and 5th grinds
i am having problems with my tranny . It is a usdm ITR with mfactory 4.928 final. I plan on rebuilding it soon , but still i am curious to what it is that 's causing the problems. Looking for some helpful inputs , opinions on this . thanks
- The tranny uses Honda MTF and shifts smooth. One day , it jus started grinding 3rd gear at any RPM above 3K. At first , i figured it must ve been the synchro's but isnt it true that they usually start grinding at high RPM's first and work its way down as it wears more ? About 2 days later , 2nd gear started grinding at any RPM above 3k. Soon after , the same for 5th. After driving like this for a few more days , i realized that it ONLY did this when its super hot . When its cold , or at normal operating temp , it doesnt do that. It starts getting harder and harder to get into those gears as it gets hotter. Then when its too hot , it starts grinding. Since then , i've done simple things like change from MTF to GM synchromesh friction modified , bled the whole clutch system , check for worn bushings of the shift linkage etc .. and nothing helped
- what can cause a working tranny to jus out of nowhere grind at low RPMS + on multiple gears ONLY when its REALLY hot ? Looking forward for someone to shed some light on my situation .

could be a damaged shift fork or internal problem. but from what you said about the temp i would be looking at the clutch area.
clutch area ? .. i m pretty sure the disc and pressure plate is still good since i 've only driven on it for about 4,000 miles ... thanks for your input .. i ll have to look into it about the shift fork
