Default 4-1 or 4-2-1?

I know I posted this in the other forum, but maybe I will get some help in this forum..thanks

We have one 4-1 header on our 99 Si, and one 4-2-1 on the other 99 Si. We tried doing a 3rd gear pull tonight. (Friday) First we both had to be in 3rd to make it fair..so from 75-80 mph we looked at eachother and nodded. Shifting into 3rd and letting out on the clutch...I hear him ready and we punch it at the same time. First we were even, then after shifting into 4th I started to pull. (I have the 4-1) I pulled pretty much through 4th never getting more than a few 5 feet from him. ( his front end came to my side door) As we shifted into 5th he started pulling pretty well. Enough to catch up and pass somewhat. And we gave up after hitting 120 mph.
Which one is better? He does have a street/strip clutch but does that have anything to do with it? I am installing one on mine wednsday.

Results depend far more on the design of the header rather than 4-1 or 4-2-1. There are so many ways to set up a 4-2-1 that virtually any effect is possible.

That's hardly a controlled experiment. I've been with a 4-2-1 Comptech header for nearly 2 years and couldn't be happier.

wtih a 4-1 header you'll get more high-end power and wtih a 4-2-1 header you'll get more mid-range power.

Would that be why I pulled then he did? Or no because he started to pull in 5th. I don't know but it is fun to go that fast.

True, which would seem to argue *against* 4-2-1s being for mid-range only. I was looking through a pretty good Honda tuning book... by SA Press I believe. I thought they liked the 4-1s better overall, even for mid-range. They presented dyno charts proving it. Guess I need to buy the book...

Yes, I noticed it in his car. With the 4-2-1. I am not too sure the up in horsepower in mine because I still have the stock clutch in it. After Wednsday I will know for sure. I will have a better clutch and better times.

Clutches don't give you any HP, unless they are worn and are slipping. Your friend doesn't have an advantage over you just because of his clutch. How many miles are on your clutch? I went 137K on my stock clutch.
