2nd gear grinding
I tried a search and came up with nothing.
Basically I just put an 89 CRX SI tranny into my 91 civic with a d16z6 swapped into it. I now get a grind when I shift into second gear. I am using 10w-30 in the tranny. Would switching to Honda MTF help? I have a short shifter, I don't remember which brand but it was 70 bucks 3 years ago. Could this be the problem? COuld my motor mounts not be aligned properly?
I noticed a problem that I have had since I swapped in the z6, it did it with the old dx tranny which 2nd gear would pop out if I let off of the gas, where the shifter moves a little when I get on the gas or let up. It moves about an inch back anf forth.
I just can not afford to do another tranny in this car.

damn always blaming the freaking synchros!!!!First, check your motor mounts. You've already stated that the engine is rocking, moving the shift lever. This will cause you to grind gears. You are trying to shift and chase the engine rock at the same time.
If that doesn't help, then likely you have a worn 1-2 shifter fork. It is made out of cast alum. and wears very quickly if abused, esp. with a short shifter.
"only when I shift fast" implies that you're on it hard which is when motor movement is most prominent. You can check your mounts by grabbing the back of the intake manifold and pulling or pushing as hard as you can, the motor shouldn't really move at all. You could also take a prybar where it will fit and pry against the motor to see if it moves.
Like Bone said, if the shifter is moving that much, I'd work on that problem before worrying about grinding into 2nd.
