Default 2nd fuel tank

Wantint to install a 2nd fuel tank into my civic.
Standard one for standard fuel and 2nd tank for high octane fuel.
For when i am drag racing.
HAs anyone done this or any links to it done as i can;t find much in search.

Much as i can think of is that i need to run two maps
two fuel links into a three way valve and the return pipe divived with a three way valve as well.
What am i missing out on ??

I've never heard of anyone doing this for pump/race gas, but there are top fuel guys running twin systems to save on $80/gal. Nitro. They'll warm up on methanol, race on Nitro., and it saves them ~$150 - $200 in fuel per run.

For you, putting a drain or petcock on the tank would be much more economical than running twin systems. Unless you just want to do it to do it....

Seems like a really damn random goal, I can't see why a car that's reveled for it's low weight would ever be in a position for adding another giant mass of weight, considering since even tuned, they are still efficient on fuel

Huh? Gas is ~6.5lbs/gal. If someone mounts a 3 gal. Jaz tank in their trunk, where does this giant mass of weight come from? And what does fuel efficiency have to do with drag racing? I'm not aware of any classes that give trophies for best MPG....

How is it a random goal.
I drive the car daily on standard fuel. then when some one asks for a run on the street i can switch over to race map and race fuel on the switch of a button.
The race tank is only going to be storing a smal amount of fuel for a few runs standard fuel gets me there and back.

what engine setup do you have that you could possibly benefit from race gas?

It wouldn't be too hard. I recently converted my engine compartment hard line to -6AN braided stainless.

Compression fitting on stock hard line with male -6AN fitting. A length of hose to a -6an shut off valve then to a T fitting and then to the stock or inline fuel filter. Then you would have to get the tank, fuel pump, run line from the trunk to the the engine compartment, put another shut off valve into and connect it to the T fitting.

It would be a PITA and take a decent amount of $ to do it.

Check out this site for the plumbing stuff:

I've toyed around with the idea solely for long distance traveling as more of a reserve tank. I was just going to tap in right to the top of the gas tank and run a line with a fitting to the trunk area with a dry break quick connect for removability purposes. It would make it much easier to connect a line than to fill up every 300 miles and be near empty. Only flaw is stopping on the side of the highway which can be dangerous to connect a line. If I left it connected I think the gas level would make it come out the vent tube since a secondary tank would be above and not even with.

every time some one goes about building a compression engine. People are always saying don't do it as you won;t get max out of the engine the engine with out high octane fuel. And this is a way i think around being able to run high octane fuel with out costing a bomb.
Normal driving normal fuel on a safe map.
Race driving one high octane fuel with a race map.

OP wants a toggle switch that'll make him faster in street races.

It's called nitrous. Go find a better stupid way to **** up your car. No one here wants to help you street race.

Not worth the cost or effort, install a drain on your gas tank or do as I do, use a transfer pump to pump the "street" gas into a jerrycan, fill with enough "race" gas for a pass, when racing is over, put the street gas back in, cheap/easy/effective. 94

I think i did answer your question a high compression engine. in the 13's.
Which will need higher octane to run at its max performance. but not affordable to run contantly on that few when i am just tipping around.

And does that say its not worth the effort. Ye must not want to win or run to the max. if it can gain me even half a length it will be worth it since its so hard to gain time in drag racing with a na motor.
Have it fairly well worked out how to do now. thanks for all the help

Now you agree that i need high octane gas
it can run no bothers in a daily mood just needs a really good map and a fair amount of retarding timing..

your sig is correct doh

[QUOTE=flat out 99;47274032]And does that say its not worth the effort. Ye must not want to win or run QUOTE]I think that was me that said it was not worth the cost and effort.

If you are looking for any advantage, the last thing you would want to do is add any weight to the car, at a hair over 6lbs a gallon any "street' gas left in the tank is extra weight, a 2nd gas tank is extra weight.

There is nothing I like better at the autocross course then guys showing up with 1/2 a tank or more of gas in their cars, It would put a big smile on my face to see someone show up with gas in a stock tank and then a second tank with race gas, just as in drag racing, in autocross 100th of a sec. can mean the diff. between a win and a loss. 94
