1994 Accord AT Replacement Difficulty
Hey all! I'm looking for some advice on replacing the automatic transmission in my '94 Accord.
First, some info. '94 Accord Coupe EX, F22b1 w/250,000 miles. I've had the car for almost 7 years now and it's been great, except that the transmission went out!
I took it to a tranny specialist and they said that the torque converter was toast as well as the internals, due to overheating. I had a transmission fluid leak and never noticed it until I ran out of fluid and trashed the poor thing.
They wanted to charge me $2500 to rebuild it or $700 to replace it with a transmission I brought in. I don't have enough for either of those options.
So, to get down to it, I'm curious as to how difficult simply replacing the transmission is? I've done almost all of the standard maintenance myself, am mechanically inclined and willing to put a lot of effort into what I do.
I do have a repair manual for the car, and a basic set of tools with the possibility of getting my hands on more specific tools if needed.
And before you suggest simply parting the car out, for various reasons, I can't get rid of the car, so I'd like to have a vehicle again at some point.
Thanks for reading, and if I posted this in the wrong section, I apologize, I'll gladly post elsewhere if needed.
