Icon4 1991 civic si hatch b16a1 problem.

Hello Honda-Tech. My distributor went bad so i ordered another one and put it in. with that i put on new plug wires. before i replaced these 2 my car ran fine. it still runs fine until i hit vtec. when i hit vtec, which is around 4400-4500 rpm, its very loud and im not increasing rpm any faster. like i said, its never had this problem. im not low on oil or anything like that. its in any gear. 1st through 5th. the car starts fine and idles fine. the timing is perfect, if not every close! please help! the motor is a b16a1.

It's likely you need to set ignition timing or you have the wires wrong.

The wires are right and the car runs fine so I know the timing is right. its only when vtec hits... or tries to hit at least

VTEC has nothing to do with the distributor, so if the wires were not installed correctly, it would run like crap if it even ran and/ or throw a cel. You should definitely check ignition timing because depending on where it is, it can effect you low, mid or high power band. Doing ignition timing by eye without a gun is the worst way to do it. Also make sure you didn't accidentally unplug other wires cuz the VTEC solenoid is right next to the dizzy.

If it's not oem honda then it's not good quality and wires could be switched around for the three pickup sensors and no they don't run vtec but the sensors control vtec timing
