Default ~ Crower cams/valve train question? ~

I have the Crower 84163 spring/retainer kit and I'm wondering if I can
run the 63402 or 63403 cams? Because on crower's website it says the cams
needs 84161 spring/retainer kit. Can I run the 63403 cams w/o problems with
my 84163 kit or do i need 86141 kit? what do you think?

thanks.

Crower cams will break with improper installation, just like a lot of guys on this board do . Ask Crower what you need and they will back it up. All after market cams have specific requirements, follow directions. Why do you think anyone here would know more than Brian Crower? After 18 sets no failures, maybe were lucky, I think not.

Did they cover it? Was it one of the experimental cams? We have had some not in the books. Just curious.

What is the proper installation for Crower cams? It shouldn't be any different
then the stock cams install, would it?

Any cams would break with improper installation. I've seen JUN 3 break and
they're one of the top (and expensive) cams.

I've had my Crower cams and valvetrain for 6 months, and no problems. I run the motor pretty hard too.

The retainers used on the B16's are different than the B18C, they are .060" taller. I had to reorder the right retainers, use 87093-D for the PR3 head, 87093 for the P72 head.

If you have the 68185 dual springs, do you still use the H22A retainers or
the B16A/B18C retainers?

On the B16A head (and prolly the ITR heads too, but not 100% sure) you use 87093D, B18C head you get 87093. I have never heard of being able to use H series valvetrain components on B series heads.

*edit* Just going through that Crower valvetrain page you listed and they use the 87093D on the H22A motors too. I didn't know that until just now. Learn something new every day!

Just FYI,

I emailed Crower and here's their reply to me email...

"Yes, you can run that kit with those cams. The #84161 features a new higher
pressure spring that we recommend, but it's not mandatory.

Thanks for your interest in Crower,

So answer to your question, yes, the 84163 kit will work
