"out of car" comprsn test...?
is there a better way to do this than to try to turn the ratchet around and around? The needle just won't budge far. Doesn't the engine need to be cranked fast?
Connect the tranny and then the starter to the tranny. Then run jumper cables from a running car to the starter to test the compression. If you don't have the tranny/starter, I am not sure what to do.
um - it is a bitch
you need a rachet, 19mm socket, 6-9ft ratchet extension, and the block needs to be like fully tied down to something solid.
two big mates help.
and yes it needs to be done fast.
plus it helps starting on a non-compression stroke.
imagine trying to jump start your engine, at the pully with a really long pole,
you pull down-ratchet up, pull down-ratchet up, pull down-ratchet up, pull down-ratchet up, pull down-ratchet up, pull down-ratchet up, pull down-ratchet up, pull down-ratchet up, pull down-ratchet up AND pull down-ratchet up,
just watch your knuckles on hte ground on hte down stroke...
good luck, make sure all the sparkies are out.
hth,

(ps yes, i think you have to do it fast so the compression can seal the rings - instead of going psssssss past them...)

i didn't realize i put you thru so much when i asked if you could do it to yours, tinker. maybe i should wait til its in, the oils kinds low too.
They finally sent it tho, losers sent the '96 tho, even after i bought the '98. Same thing (i guess); even came with the low rise intake mani - did yours? they also yanked the distrib, alt., and the flywheel (shouldn't that be on the engine side?) Not that i can use all that stuff.

so yeah, after i put hte head back together, it was a bit of a pain, i did fudge the numbers - i allowed for some degree of compression loss cause there were only 7 head bolts (didnt i say that i stripped 3 head bolts in hte process (NB!!!) and had to drill them out - oh well, my bad!)
but yeah, twas a bitch.
what is the block stamp my friend?
i got the 'giraffe' style intake, injectors, block and thats it.
how was the delivery - no ordeal?

in the bottom left corner of the front of the block it says "95", so i would assume that means the year.
So if ours are the same year and i got the ls style mani and you got the giraffe, maybe mine isn't from the crv. The other thing i see is that the crank pulley doesn't look twice as big as my ls pulley. I'll measure tomorrow, but i think they're the same size (maybe an Orthia engine...?).
Hey hey, i got the air conditioner compressor, too bad i dont' have the rest of the a/c parts.
Shipping was an ordeal It took a week and a half, about 10 phone calls to 3 different people, all to get this thing 3 hours up the road to my house. I waited around til 5pm to see if the guy needed help, but he didn't show so i went to the gym. When i got back, there it was, with the engine sitting sideways as it had broken through the skid et al... He backed his 18 wheeler down my drive way and had some metal ramp planks and a big dolly (or so what i gather from my mothers interpretation) and got er down. Didn't even leave a shipping bill.

ps. What's with the extra engine mount sticking out by the a/c compressor. I sure hope that's part of the a/c bracket

on hte front side of hte head tehre should be 4 circles with numbers in them, reading from left to right the fisrt circle is hte year.
(man my spelling is terrible today!)
the AC compressor makes a quaint doorstop!!!
tehre should be a huge AC bracket with a pully tensioner bit sticking out and hte PS pump bracket...
is it a B20B or a B20B1 or a B20B4?
i hope your block is ok? they can be rough with our sought after parts cant they?!?!
good to hear you are on track!
t..
PS have you seen some of the numbers that are being posted about htese combos? like 13 second 1/4's!!!
