Default "detroit locker" on a transaxle

Ok, first let me say that I don't know a whole lot about trannys and LSD's. But from what I "think" I understand is my car has no LSD in it. Hence the one wheel that propels me to mind blowing 95mph top speed. But with a LSD in there, under certain low traction conditions(like a sharp turn) it transfers power to the other wheel. I heard about this age old device used in muscle cars, back in the 70's mostly, that locked both wheels togather all the time. The "detroit locker" i belive it was called. So the question is, do they make it for front wheel drive cars. If so, would they be a good idea/bad idea or would they stop a car from turning because both wheels are turing at the same speed all the time. I'm just curios, thats all. What do you guys think. Pro's...?Con's...?Could something like that ever be used for any situation?

I don't know what this "detroit locker" is, but I bet it's either like the phantom grip LSD or just a welded differential. I know some people with rabbits/golfs and they weld their diffs, but that seems like a really redneck/straight-line kind of thing to do...The phantom grip on the other hand seems to be a good deal (Less than $300) as long as you aren't planning on making more than 300hp, since they seem to not like that...

A Detroit locker is a brand of posi-traction for rwd differentials. They are not available for fwd applications. The best unit you can buy is the Quaife. I sell the unit for $810 shipped. Then you will need to pay someone to install it. You can buy cheaper units than Quaife but none are as strong or come with a lifetime warranty.

Detroit Locker's are a form of limited slip differential that was available for Ford rear-ends. Then it sensed a wheel spinning, it locked up. (hence the name) It wasn't a "comfortable" drive due to the hammering the rear end went through. Like an "on-off" switch.

You do NOT want to drive a car on the street with a solid differential (spool). It's dangerous!

The prior post stating that the Quafe being the best is correct (at least in my mind).
