Powdercoating Koni Sports...worth it?
Okay Guys, I bought a used set of Koni sport Sp3's for my civic.
They were rusted as hell, so i want to get them sandblasted and powder-coated.
The powder-coat shop says they will have to evacuate the shocks gasses, and take it apart, so they can powder-coat safely. Problem is, they can only refill and rebuild my shocks if they are oil filled.
The guy told me that if I do powder-coat them, he will hand me all my shocks completely disassembled, and ready to be refilled. Said I should call Koni to get them refilled, and he even said they Koni should charge me less $$ because the shocks would arrive to them already disassembled by their powder-coating shop.
Now, my buddies keep telling me to rattle-can paint the Koni's, so I don't spend the $125 the shop is charging me to powder coat them.
If these were Tokico's, or AGX's, I would veer towards spray can paint. But they are Koni Sport SP3's! Which I feel are very worth the investment in powder-coating so that I can prolong them.
Am I way over my head? Should I save the $125 and buy GC top hats for my GC/Koni setup? Will spray can paint get the job done considering rust prevention? I live in Florida by the way.
Thanks guys!

I spray painted mine flat black, simply to reduce the "steal me yellow" from showing.
I'd say, remove the rust, verify that the body isn't damaged, and just paint them. Unless it's a show car, there isn't much reason to worry about the outside of the shock body...

Rattlecan it is I guess.
The reason I bought the shocks was for the price, and the seller even sent me a youtube video demonstrating the shocks' working condition, despite the rust. Reason it was rusted was because the guy lived up north in NYC.

another option you could go with if you are worried about the rust at all is a coat of something like rustbullet paint and then a topcoat. A trial size will be enough for that.
Dupli-color School Bus Yellow is the closest match to Koni Yellow, Yellow.
Koni's paint is horrendous it lasts about 10mins normally. Just spray bomb it and call it good.
