Koni Yellows suck?
I have Koni Yellow adjustable shocks on my Civic and recently I was speaking with this guy who said that Koni shocks have to be rebuilt frequently in a short period of time. Has anyone ever heard of this or know what may cause this? Thanks

I know they can be rebuilt, but i'm not sure of the time in between. I'm sure it depends on how you use them and how low your car is. HTH.

Yep. You can kill any shock by running too much drop, and basically slamming the insides together by compressing the shock too much. But I don't think Koni has developed such an excellent reputation by having shocks that need to be rebuilt frequently. What did this guy suggest you run instead?

Did he say which model of Koni shocks? Did he mean all Konis? I have yellows and they are awesome at damping the Integra Pro-Kits on my Civic.

He didn't really give me any suggestions, just told me that story.
they do need to be rebuilt often if they are run with too stiff a spring, or what was said above, they are allowed to bottom out. Koni makes a very durable shock, and compared to tokico and kyb, the Koni Yellows can handle a stiffer spring rate for a longer period of time without needing any rebuilding... so the Koni yellows are superior to the other common choices of the import crowd on a budget... and even to some choices of those not on a budget

Re: Koni Yellows suck? (owen_the_soyboy)
I bought my yellows because of Koni's reputation as on of the best shock manufacturers out there. Their race history speaks volumes of their quality.
I'm very happy w/ mine so far (installed them late summer). I'm using them w/ Neuspeed Sofsport springs (same rate as the sports, but a 3/4" drop) and I have them on the lower perch up front and middle perch out back, so the car is dropped about 1.75" up front.
Handling is great--body roll is almost nil. As for ride quality, even on the softest setting, they are pretty stiff. It os still compliant enough for a daily driver, but if you go over rough roads, you know it. Unfortunately 'performance' shocks are stiff.
hope this helps.

umm...I have no complaints with my Koni Yellows..i am running them with Ground Controls...I have them medium in the front and stiff in the rear...not to bumpy...but then again..u sacrifcie comfortabiltiy with a sportier suspension..what do you expect....but if u do want to help eliminate this bumpiness...i would advise bigger profile tires...and higher ur car a little bit......I have rode in many suspension setups..they are all respectable..but not as good as Koni yellows...I have driven an EK coupe with KYB AGX and Skunk 2s...corners very good..but the car was very bouncy....even on smooth roads...it was a very wavey ride...i guess u could say...and my roomate has a DC coupe...he is running Neuspeed springs with Koni Reds..the nauseating bounciness is eliminated..however the handling does not compare to the Skunk set up and my set up....umm...as for the rebuilding...i have never heard anything from any forum..i get more people advising Koni's then complaining...i have heard similar problems with Tockico however...i do not know the details though..don't worry man..Koni Yellows are the cream of the crop...be happy u have them..I and many other people in this forum are. In suspension..the difference can be Chocolate and ****!!...he he..i love that saying...

Re: Koni Yellows suck? (Sohc Driver)
Well I am glad to hear that Koni's are cream of the crop. People praise the Koni Yellow more than any other shock on the forums I belong to so this comment made me wonder if this had happened to anyone else. I still think I bought the right shock for me.

I have Koni yellows and Progress Springs (can't remember the spring rate right now). They're pretty stiff and I keep them on soft all around for daily driving.
Keep in mind, though, Yellows are only rebound adjustable. That may make a difference...
Mine ride nice and handle pretty flat and neutral, even with the rears set on soft.
The best part is, if you don't like the damping or they're wearing out, you can send them to Koni to be rebuilt for cheaper than getting new ones.
Oh yeah, I bought mine used. Two years old and they're still pretty nice.

umm..i think they can be sent back for free...it will only cost ya on the shipping ....because Koni's have a lifetime warranty....correct me if i am wrong..but i've been told that and i think it says so on one of those certificate thingies that comes along with the shocks...

mine were 400 for shocks and springs, but used... doesn't really count.
As for sending them back, I'm sure if it's a warranty problem you can send them back for free, but I was talking about re-valving/rebuilding, not necessarily because they are broken. I think that costs.

Re: Koni Yellows suck? (ToneyTigre)
I paid $513 shipped from DiabloAutosports. I love them. They are rated to handle up to 500lb springs with no problems or premature wear out. My rates are 457/257. Peace.

Re: Koni Yellows suck? (96 SOHC VTEC)
koni will not rebuild ur shocks for free. their warranty dont warrant normal wear and tear. Why not dowload their catalog, they will have what is cover under warranty and what is not.
