Ground Control Problem
ok so i bought some ground control coilovers with kyb adjustable shocks. i put them on a 1990 crx dx. the thing is, they are lowered all the way down on the front but i still have a one finger gap. not sure if its supposed to be like that but i always heard ground controls go really low. i used to have them on my eg hatch and they would go alot lower. does anyone have a clue what the problem would be? thanks in advance.
Are you sure the shocks are for an '88-91 Civic/CRX and not some other car like an Integra or newer Civic?
Are you sure the fronts aren't sitting on the bump stops at rest?

the thing is the whole setup was on a 90 si hatch. He said they would fit and i got a really good deal on them. Ive talked to a few people and they said the shocks are holding me from going lower. They said if i would get Koni yellows, i would be able to go ALOT lower. So i think i may change the shocks out. What do yall think? I put these on yesterday at work and drove home and thats it. Havent driven the car yet since yesterday.

Provided that the shocks you already have are for an '88-91 Civic or CRX, they have nothing to do with the ride height. Switching to Koni shocks would not change anything.
What bump stops are you using? If stock, were they trimmed at all?

not sure which bumpstops they were. they were already on there when i put the suspension on. and they were kinda chopped up. so the bumpstops have the do with the ride height? if so, maybe i need to replace them.

Only if the dampers are sitting on them while the car is at rest. Replacing them won't necessarily help either.
You're going to have to post some photos or something to give us an idea, because there's something odd going on there. Post the part numbers off the springs as well; I would like to see the free length.

here are the pics. they are really dirty...it rained yesterday.

i couldnt find the numbers on the back one. but the front one had something like this on it.
54584 00200.6k.58 but i think the k may have been a 4. so like 00200.64.58. i cant see the back ones.

That's an 8" spring, 2.5" inner diameter, 325 lbs-in.
Some of your problem may be the 8" free length. I always recommend using 7" springs up front for an '88-91 Civic/CRX. A 7" spring will give you an additional inch of threads for adjustment on the sleeve.
How about a picture of the car's ride height?
But - what is that black thing up top in the front? Is that a dust boot, or is it part of the bump stop? If it's the bump stop, then obviously you've run out of shock compression travel, in which case you have a few options.
The rears look fine.

lets just put it this way...there is a one finger gap in the back between the tire and 1/4 panel and there is a 1.5-2 finger gap in between the tire and the front fender. its pretty high for being all the way down. and yes, that is part of the bump stop. i think i may just sell these with the shocks and all. and just get a new set. what do you recommend? i want the car to be alot lower so what would you recommend me getting? where can i get the 7" sleeve ground controls? and which shocks? koni yellows?
If that's the bump stop, then you can obviously see what your problem is. Changing springs or shocks will not help.
You will need to trim the bump stops, or alternately pick up some Ground Control upper mounts for the front. If you trim the existing ones, do not leave less than 1" under any circumstances or you will damage your shocks.
If you want the car to be "a lot" lower, then you're going to have to bump up the spring rates "a lot" as well, which is going to make the car ride much rougher. You'll also be underdamped with the KYB AGX.
Perhaps you should look into air bags or air cylinders if looks are so important to you.

well i dont want air bags lol. i meant alot lower by atleast tucking more of the tire. the car now still looks so high. i was thinking of getting a new setup and ditching this one. either ksports, skunk2 pro series, or ground control with koni yellows.
I think you should jack it up and look at it. Make sure it is seating right. I lowered my car recently and took it off the jacks and it was sitting higher than stock. Took us a little bit but we got it figured out and I'm pretty happy with my setup. Also, if it looks ok to you, then you should have someone else look it over who is familiar with suspensions
well im a tech helper at an acura dealership and me and the tech im learning from did the job. ill look it over tomorrow once more and see if i see anything wrong with it.
