Ground Control Custom Spring Rates
hey hows it going i have an eg hatch dumped (oil pan inches off the floor) with koni yellows ground controls 350f and 2..r spring rates and my car is really bouncy. i took out the bump stumps and cut out my shock tower so my camber kit doesnt hit. i dont know what spring rate to get. i want a really stiff ride. i was panning on getting 900f spring rate but people are telling me that i cant go higher than 500. so i dont know what to do. i need you guys opinions and help i would greatly appreciate it
Thanks

900lb? Are you crazy?
The koni sport is rated to 600lb, however, you can run higher spring rates on it. It's just not reccomended.
Oh yeah, it will always be bouncy.

Your rates are too low for that ride height. You obviously don't care much for handling, ride, comfort or anything other than the looks, so go ahead and drop 900s in.

Re: Ground Control Custom Spring Rates
did they say why?
and then i must ask why to both questions. not trying to ruffle feathers but i gets old hearing false accusations and regurgitated internet "experiences." there are many dynamics to suspension design, such a vague statement is ridiculous. furthermore, some people.. actually, a LOT of people like low cars. in fact it could easily be considered a staple of most any automotive genre. although, and the honda world is still poking air-ride with a proverbial stick. so until the honda world figures air suspension out we'll continue to see lot's of silly spring rates.
THIS is the only way the op will be able to limit his suspension's travel over normal bumps and humps on the street.
i can tell you that you'll need to turn the koni's all the way up and still expect to be launched into the air over some humps, to the point of having your seat belt lock up. but it'll keep your fenders with a clean radius.
personally i don't thin 2" from the ground necessitates springs that high. idk, depend on your roads and how you drive.

Yea, sump scraping, limo smooth ride. Just like that supermodel next door who does your cooking, cleaning and brings her supermodel friends round for weekly threeways. Keep on dreamin' pal!

Re: Ground Control Custom Spring Rates
you realize that a car smooths out the bumps in the road by allowing it's suspension to sink into the car as it goes over that bump. if you use a spring which will make it more resistant to allowing the suspension to compress, it'll make the car move more over the bump (stiff spring), and send this movement right through your *** and spine. you cannot have a good ride and keep your oil pan from becoming a sparkler while lowered on anything involving springs.
in so few words.

i dont care if im bouncing i just dont want the car to bounce. right now my car feels like a bounce house on any little bump and its annoying to drive. im not going on bags because bags are gay and they are for cheaters and plus im not a volkswagon lol

is this really how kids think these days? **** me, we're all doomed. volkswagens are not the only automotive genre on the planet to use air suspension. why? because it works. you were smart enough to buy koni's, be smart enough to realize it's not the perfect solution to what you're looking for. anyways, here's your answer:

Agreed...
Also if your not going to mostly drive the car to and from the race track.... an uber stiff suspension can be down right dangerous on the highway.... Cause race tracks don't have dips, humps, bumps, waves and holes. I've seen a purebread track car go airborne and land the next lane over on the highway when cruising at a good clip and hit some wonky pavement. Lucky the occupants wern't killed.
There are good reasons people make compromises when building a car for both the street and track.

Re: Ground Control Custom Spring Rates
I would say for what your using the car for, ie not tracking it, pure daily driver low and slow, not interested in spirited driving... a good balanced base line would be 300lb linear springs front and back...
As soon as you biasing the spring rates front or back, you start adding oversteer or understeer, and a lot of that has to do with driving style, personal preference and the type of motorsport you want the car suited for.
You can't build a car to be good at everything.... Always tradeoffs and balances. My car has riduculous throttle response, acceleration and some oversteer. In the tight confines of urban streets its a rattlesnake that no exotic could match. On the open highway, I top out at 140mph and just about every basic OEM euro car could outstretch me.
So go do your homework... search and read.
Good luck.

Re: Ground Control Custom Spring Rates
300lb is not enough for a slammed car.
You have to worry about bottoming out the shocks, and keeping the UCA's out of the shock towers. Higher spring rates are needed.

Re: Ground Control Custom Spring Rates
my advice is to either deal with a harsh ride, because thats inherent to a lowered car or go purchase a luxury car. take your pick, those are really your only choices.
