Do you need need shocks if you get lowering springs?
Will my stock shocks blow out or something else bad happen if I put a set of lower springs on my 05 Civic EX?

Get some cheap shocks but after market like KYBs, Skunk2, Tokiko, ETC.... those would last for a long time on lowering springs... (+) a little performance wouldnt hurt...

Also, when you say the shocks will go out sooner, how much sooner are you talking about? How long would they last normally?

It depends on how aggressive of a drop your are planning. But providing that your stock shocks are in decent condition you could get a few years out of them maybe like 60,000 miles depending on what driving you do.
