coilover question...
i have d2 coilovers.
they came with 9kg front/7kg rear springs.
i want to lower the spring rate to about 7kg/5kg or 5kg/3.5kg...
if i do this, will my shocks be ok? or do i need to get them reconfigured? (i can't remember the right word for this)
Revalved?
I don't think so. I've only heard of revalving when increasing the spring rate. Im not sure if there will be any affect from riding around with overvalved shocks. Just lower the dampening level on the shocks if they are adjustable.

Stock rates for 96-00 EX - 165F/80R (lbs/in). Do you want to go back to stock rates? I highly doubt running stock spring rates on the d2 shocks will be comfortable at all..springs should be somewhat matched to the shocks, otherwise you'll be over- or under-damped. If you want to go back to stock, buy complete stock units or buy aftermarket OEM replacement shocks (and OEM springs or lowering spring of your choice).
i wasn't planning on going to stock rates... 7k/5k is still much stiffer that stock. (skunk2 coilover sleeves are rated around 8k/6k, if i remember correctly)
what i WANT is a smoother ride.
right now when i go over a bump big enough, the entire rear jumps so hard that everything in my car jumps up in the air.
i originally got the d2's for handling in corners...
i got a set of gsr swaybars now, so i think i don't need spring rates as high, right?
or is there another way of make my ride smoother w/o sacrificing handling?

Tires play a bit of a role in ride quality. For example, getting too thin of a profile tire will make a car feel like its riding a lot stiffer over bumps. Also, you are more likely to bend a rim as well.
When I had a 205/40/16 on my DC4 I felt every little thing. But when I swithced to a 205/50/15 the ride quality felt alot better and still handled just as well.

this is true, but i'm running 195/50/15's... which IMO aren't THAT low-profile, esp compared to ppl running 16's and 17's.
