Anyone know how to replace the bushings on the older type LCAs?
I mean the type of LCA on my 88 CRX or some integras, made with bent/stamped sheet steel:

Anybody able to give me some guidance?

u can press new ones in, but ull more than likely bend the arm where the bushing goes in. unless ur careful.

I had a small round piece of aluminum that I cut to the correct width in order for it to sit within the inner space between the two "halves" of the LCA. Then I cut that piece in two and used half of it to support the inside of the arm to prevent it from collapsing.
It's a similar concept to what you did with that block of aluminum but using half of a round stock gave me enough to support right around the bushing area. I've installed tons and tons of bushings and have tricks and tools for almost all of them.
If you can't get it, let me know. I can do it for you if you're willing to ship them to Chicago but it looks like you've got enough tools and materials to make something work.

Re: Anyone know how to replace the bushings on the older type LCAs?
Thanks for the suggestions phunhaus. I managed to get the bushings installed once I realized the trick to it. The bushings are not symetrical, one end is about .02 to .03 inches larger.

The holes in the LCA are different sizes, also. This means that the bushings only want to go in or out one way. If you do it the wrong way, it is very difficult to remove and just about impossible to install the bushings. If you do it the right way, installation is not too hard. Both ends of the bushing engage the LCA holes simultaneously, and this aligns the bushing as you press it in. My home made "press" worked just fine.
