89 Civic Si, Loose front spring seat fitting for Koni STR.T and H&R Sport springs
Hi All,
Went to start assembling my suspension setup, and I'm noticing there is a ton of play where the front sprint seats on the strut.
These are Koni STR.Ts (Orange) and H&R Sport springs.
Is this normal? I'm concerned the spring would bind or mess up the strut guard.
Karl

not sure how there would be play, or why you would even be concerned about it. when its loaded the spring cant go anywhere...

Agreed, it shouldn't go anywhere. Maybe I'm just being paranoid. There was about 5/8" of play on the strut perch, so the strut could move back and forth. I was concerned there might be binding.
I ended up getting some hose and using that to keep the spring centered on the strut perch.

the fronts should not have any play. I doubt the rears are loose either.
no clue what you're referring to, though...
Are you sure you have the correct springs in the correct spots?
No chance for pics, I assume...

Rear had no play, went together perfectly.
On the front, the bottom part of the spring, where it sits on the strut perch, had enough room to move back and forth on the perch about 3/8 an inch. It wasn't loose when the spring/strut was assembled, but it would move if pushed.
Everything is assembled correctly according to the FSM. Using the hose to act as a spacer appears to have addressed the play.
I do apologize, I really should have taken pictures. I'll update when I inspect the suspension again. I haven't noticed any problems yet with the front. Suspension feels pretty good so far.
