Default 13/16 master cylinder on integra brakes safe?

Hey what’s up guys, just joined the h-t community but have been lurking and reading up on tons of info for awhile now.

Anyways I’m hoping some of you can help me with a few issues I am having.

I’ve got a 93 civic dx sedan with a full integra disc brake conversion front and rear I bought like that. I just replaced the master cylinder with a stock replacement as the original was leaking a lot and replaced the stock 3040 prop valve with a 4040. Anyways now that’s it fully bled(yes it is fully bled I am sure) it has a really long stroke before the brakes engage. I have 3 other civics so I know what the pedal feel should be like. Anyway After the super long stroke it behaves normally and can lock up the 195 all seasons I’m currently running.

I know the integra uses a 15/16 MC and the brand new master cylinder I just installed on my car is the oe 13/16 MC specified for the dx.
I plan on running my 16 inch wheels with 205 summer tires.

My question is will the brand new 13/16 MC I just installed provide enough fluid volume to safely stop the integra brakes on the vehicle when I step up to a stickier/heavier setup?

I know I can install a 15/16 master cylinder from a 91 ex onto my booster but I just installed a brand new raybestos master cylinder that was pretty expensive

I intend to drive the car very hard so I just want be sure the brakes will be up to the task.

I appreciate any insight you could provide, thanks.

Are your pad slides and pad ears properly lubed a
and freely sliding? Badly maintained sliding parts are a pretty common cause of spongy or long travel brakes.

The brakes will be spongy with an undersize MC... and in a panic situation, they may not apply enough pressure.

Or may apply TOO much pressure -- you may lock the brakes too easily.

Brakes are most effective if you can modulate them so that you can get maximum friction (threshold braking is achieved RIIIGHT before the tires lock up). Yours will be harder to modulate properly because the MC is undersize.

Why MUST you drive it hard? Like...is it part of your job description or something?

I never thought to check the slide pins and pads. I got the car with fresh pads and rotors but the previous owner has done so much shoddy work on the car I highly doubt he greased the slide pins or the pad ears.

I’ll go pick up some sil-glyde later and report back after getting the brake components greased.

You could say driving it hard is in my job description in a way haha.
I drive 65 miles round trip to work and back every day, my daily commute is narrow tight wooded back roads.

On a fairly consistent basis I encounter anything from vechiles flying through blind corners in the opposite lane, avoiding wildlife and large rocks/road debris, and larger vehicles never seeing me and almost running me off the road so I feel that I have to depend on my vehicles ability to brake and safely maneuver enough to get me out of these situations.

here is the 15/16th I used in my 93 si when upgraded to integra fronts

Amazon Amazon

its not that expensive i would just upgrade imo you need a bigger MC, it make sense that you have a lot of pedal travel

Well as per the recommendation I got from bserious I greased the slide pins and brake pad ears.

Needless to say the improvement in brake feel was huge, and added a lot more initial bite. I had 2 slide pines (1 out back one up front) that had zero grease and were actually rusting. Replaced the pins and boots and greased everything.

Sorry for the late response guys, got really busy with work.

i ended up purchasing the centric 15/16 master off rock auto.
Installed it and bled the brakes once again.

My pedal stroke is shorter and pedal is much firmer at the end of the stroke. Feels so much better!
Thank you so much for the help guys
