Default RSR exmag; stainless steel?

Do they make them now in stainless steel? I know in the pictures they are coated, but some description say ss, maybe its just for the tip or muffler.

My Rsr GT-II is coated stainless... so I am assuming that that one is stainless too.

*Back to life*

Is the RSR Exmag really all s/s (some 409ss and coated/some304ss)?

Here are the quotes from the RS-R homepage:
"Sleek in design, this exhaust systems jet-black coating hides the SUS409 stainless steel muffler and piping behind the well known. Each ExMag system is custom tailored for each application. The ExMag muffler can be either a straight through, loop or chambered design.
RS*R exhausts are made from a combination of 409 stainless steel and 304 stainless steel in both the polished and non-polished form. GT2 exhaust tips are all laser cut, to ensure that we get a perfect look, every time. All RS*R exhausts are designed for proper fitment and then tested on the in-house dyno to ensure maximum power gains."

I thought that I had read either here or team-integra people having rust issues...I need a quiet system that is not going to rust like my current setup.

Thanks,
John

I also found this quote from the Director of Sales:

"Hello,
RS-R exhaust piping is made out of a material called 409 steel. It is a
very high quality, half stainless alloy. Although we can use 304 steel
for our piping, we would not be able to create the stealth appearance of
the ExMag. You can be assured that you are getting a very high quality
exhaust, and the piping is a coated stainless steel.
Thanks,

So, what exactly is a half-stainless alloy?...can it rust?

I've heard of the rsr having rust problems which is why I chose not to get one. It's not necessarily the problem of whether its coated on the outside or not. It will rust from the inside.

Seems like people were confusing 'stainless steel' with polished stainless steel (as opposed to the newer version which is painted/coated stainless steel.

Even though its 'stainless' steel, it will still show signs of rust on the outside surface (ironic huh). they seem pretty durable throughout though from what I've read. My Greddy SP rusted out on me recently, so I'm looking for a long term exhaust too

It's not stainless steel. Only the muffler is stainless steel, the rest is coated mild steel. I've read several horror stories of it rusting out after 1 year. Which is why I'm going all SS.

read there for one such horror story.

The piping is made from 409 stainless steel (better than aluminised steel but not as rust-resistant as 304 stainless). The muffler is 304 stainless steel. Both are covered with a coating so it should be safe from rust. And, 409 stainless actually allows the surface area to form a rust covering but not eat through, it's not as pretty as the 304 but it too is good for an exhaust, especially if covered with a coating like the RS-R Exmag.

For more info on 409 stainless see--> http://www.azom.com/Details.asp?ArticleID=969

as far as the exmag and gt2, i am wondering if 409 ss is lighter than 304 stainless steel, i know that weight for these exhausts are a issue the lighter the better is what rsr is going for and to use a heavier gauge my thoughts would be 409ss is lighter yet durable. plus it being coated never hurts... my gt2 catback exhaust system is 3.2 inches in piping diameter and the whole thing weighs a total of 16lbs that is light
