im planning to build my own 3" exhaust and wonderin is it better for me to use mild steel or stainless steel. if i go mild it'll save quite a bit of money. will i have any problem with rusting if i go mild steel?

Most mld steel piping you buy is aluminized to keep it from rusting. Of course the MIG welds will rust if not covered by anything.
I went mild steel and saved a ton of money. Stainless will need to be TIG'd to be done right, you can MIG it with stainless wire but thats just ghetto if you ask me.
I did my hatch with 2 90's and one 45 mandrel bends and about 6 ft of straight which is taking up the place where the cat used to be. Magnaflow muffler sounds burly as **** too

its gona perform the same. Mild is cheaper, but wont last as long. SS will last forever, but needs to welded correctly.

I'm running a mild steel downpipe right now. I plan on upgrading to stainless V-Band when I can afford it.

MIG'd stainless works fine. If you are decent at MIG'ing it looks alright, it just kind of sits up on the pipe. It can get ugly in a hurry though.

I'd say go mild and spray paint all the welds when you are done.

i have mild steel with everything jet hot coated the 2000 degree coating, so it all looks good at the same time and will outlast everything.

btw for the bend that goes over the suspension on a civic, what degree do you guys think i should get. i'm thinking between the 45 and 90. but dont know which one. can somebody help me out.

Just a note - if you're welding aluminized piping make sure wherever you're doing it is very well ventilated. If enough of the fumes are inhaled you will start vomiting like crazy. Not fun.

I used one 45 degree and cut it in half. 22.5 degree up and then the other 22.5 so it goes straight back. In order for the muffler to sit horizontal to the ground and up high in the "muffler area" i had to cut out a half moon shape in the bumper so that the tip fits through. Looks awesome!! I wish I had pics, sorry.

You could always just buy on of Mike Kteller8's Custom piping kits, he sells SS and mild steel, all you have to do is get the pieces welded.

I went with Mild steel to save $$.

what kind of flange do you guys use on your custom exhaust? 3 bolt or 2?

I used 3 bolt at the dp/exhaust side and 2 bolt back at the muffler. Basically just like how stock does it.
