Default to keep or not to keep?

well here is the story, i have a 91 honda civic si hatchback and i dont really have the "friends" or knowledge to install my new motor, i have a jdm b16 with y1 lsd and all the hasport additions, ls halfshaft, pr3 ecu, and exedy stage 1 clutch,4-2-1 header, and exhaust and some more little small stuff the car has 120k on the stock body and motor and the paint is faded and i need a new quarterpanel,no rust, just a dent, well anyways i dont really know what to do, i have all of the stuff in my garage and i could try to do the swap my self with lack of tools and knowledge on the wiring stuff with maybe 1 actual friend in my area, i have a couple swap manuals...or option 2 just say **** it, sell everything i have including the car and use it for a down payment on a 02 rsx type s,or older model gsr and lower it and just have something kinda fun to drive, i got into cars because it was fun and because there were alot of people in the game but i dont really hang out with anyone anymore because everyone is just an *** or a drama queen, i wanna stay into cars but i dont really have the absolute knowledge to do my swap and stay in the game, plus the dent fix is gonna cost me a pretty penny around 2500 for a new qp and paint.....but oh well i dunno

p.s. i have helped with 2 transmission swaps on my car and i pretty much know how to take apart the whole suspension...do anything interior because i have dropped the sunroof before to look for rust, and interior is easy anyway, i wouldnt know how to wire the swap even though i have manuals-they confuse me, dont have all of the tools, i could order a lift or rent one,and prolly borrow some tools

you can do it, just start reading everything you can on swaps, then calm down and go through it in your head. it took me a while, but i successfully went from only knowing how to change my oil to swapping an engine in a few months time. just take it bit by bit or it will seem overwhelming.

are there even hondas in tenessee? lol. just messin with ya. i have never done a motor install...but have done a lot of other mechanical stuff myself. it's all about patience. everytime i start something new, i get worried as well...but a b16 install shouldn't be too bad from what i've read, and there is a wealth of info on the install not only on this board, but all over the net as well.

Keep it. I'm sure there has to be some H-T members in your area that are willing to come help out a fellow member. I know I would if I were in your area. But Cali is kinda far

keep your setup dude!

there are countless people on honda tech that can walk you through a troubling part in the installation.

your car has a lot of potential. i would keep it and get started on it. DOHC civic hatches are funner to drive than an integra anyways!

i would keep the hatch. it is starting to get to the point where a clean 88-91 hatch is a rare thing, just like with the 2nd gen CRX. and everybody owns an integra now. what you have is old school! i would work with it.

you have the opportunity to have probably one of the better EF's in Memphis, i would take advantage of it. you have pretty much everything needed but tools right?. certainly you must have a family friend somewhere who would loan some tools out to a buddy in need.

there is ONE thing that i think you need still:
*** the Honda EF Civic/CRX manual. i have one, i call it my "bible." everything is in this thick book, down to the torque specs for like every bolt in your car.

ive got the manual haha...like i said ive done 2 tranny swaps, and i cant do everything suspension wise....just not knowledgeable on connections etc....and yes there arent any nice ef's in memphis at all...after the swap if i keep it its all going to be dent fixed..jdm fronted..and s2k red paint..no flake...problem is i just dont have friends who actually would help with the swap...even if i tossed them a benjamin or 2 they all said no....hard to believe they are your friends, i would help anyone at any time if i could and i allways have

maybe you could try to find a fellow Honda Tech member that lives in your proximity. then they could assist you with the installation.

really the only hard part of the installation is getting the motor dropped in and angled correctly to meet up with the mounts. this isn't hard, it just takes time because the rear mount is kinda tricky. you probably just need a cherry picker, right? you can buy one at autozone for like $160 i think... i almost bought one but borrowed one from someone instead. all of the Hasport goodies should come with pretty thorough instructions also.

and like i said, there is an endless resource of knowledge and experience on Honda Tech. thousands of people here have done the B16 EF thing. maybe begin contact with one who can guide you through this.

i really believe that as long as you have a decent metric tool set (go to autozone, pep boys, whatever) a long, sturdy, hollow bar to slip over the wratchet (for lots of leverage/torque), and the ability to follow written instruction you can do this!

if you had at least one person help you out it would make all of the difference. maybe call up some family? really you just need an extra hand to give you tools, help maneuver the engine, and hook everthing up again.

The wiring didn't make sense to me until I had an ecu and the wires in front of me. Just go for it, if you get overwhelmed you can still sell the stuff.

def keep the car. swaps are pretty easy. make sure u got ur basic metric socket set. its nice to have air tools also. anyway b16 wiring isnt really hard. ur just adding vtec and o2 sensor wires. theres plenty of b16 writeups floating around online.

Keep it and drop that JDM in there. Since you have a garage just take your time. Hopefully one day I'll have enough cash to buy my setup.
