For the past year or so, whenever i refuel my car, usually about 11 to 12 gallons worth, the car will run for a little bit then die. I've ignored it for a while, but it's getting quite annoying now.

Now I know to listen for the fuel pump to pressurize or whatever it does, it makes a whirly sound. But right after i refuel it doesn't do that immediately. I would have to wait 1 to 10 minutes before i can get the fuel pump to make that sound, then i can be on my way.

Now if my fuel pump is going bad, why does it smoothly work after the initial hiceps of refueling.

And also, what does the main relay do, and what happens when it goes bad.

Another question, what happens when injectors go bad.

ps, car is 1994 integra with over 170k miles

 

if it's on warm days and your interior is hot then i would take a look at the main fuel relay since they are known for "making the car just die" and it taking a little while for it to start up again. Inside the relay some of the prongs that are soldered onto the circuit board have a tendency to kind of crack or break especially when the interior is hot. I took mine apart and soldered the prong better and i've never had the problem since. Just search it and there are threads that talk about this problem more in depth. Just my .02 cents.

 

thanks for the pointer. after doing some searching, i think it is the main relay. happened again yesterday, felt for clicking on the main relay and none. then it was good. gonna try to solder it today.
