ok i just installed a b16 and im completely stumped as to why itll pop in and out of vtec........ things ive checked


Replaced oil pan and pick up cuz of a dent
changed the vtec soldnoid with a known working good one
checked all the wiring to the computer and to the VAFC
switched computers i've used a 2 p30's and a chipped p28 no difference
has the little dowel pin and oring under the center cam cap
no oil leaks
has oil pressure
has the correct amount of oil also
pretty much runs like a normal b16 just no vtec.... moves just fine from 1000-5000 rpms then falls pretty much on its face after 5500


anyone have any ideas?

someone said it might be the cat that was changed when i installed a jdm4-1 header and stright pipe.... still no vtec; once in a while it will be in vtec for first gear then drop out after 7k......

 

it also sounds like its detonating sometimes like baaaaaaRARARAbaaaaa..... kinda like someone is putting something in front of the throttle body at WOT..... i've checked everything and the only thing i can think now is its something mechanical

 

bump it up to the top while i go back to work =\

what are your VAFC settings?

 

check your oil pressure.might have a leak inside the motor.
