Coil Over installation instructions
My coilovers never came with installation instructions and i need some badly cuz i hate the fender gap...Just need installation instructions/tips and if anyone has pics for a 90-93 install that would be great..BTW Do you really need a spring compressor b/c when my friend did his 93 he said didnt even need one..Any Help would be great...thx
What brand of coil-overs did you get? Ones i have are Weapon-R (STIFF).
Mine didn't come with any instructions either so i just put the 2 springs and the perch on the strut.
As for a compresser, you don't really need one but you do need some kind of small strap when taking off the stock spring. Because it will give quite a bit of kick when you get the top bolt off.
WD-40 and a breaker-bar, those help a Lot when trying to take apart the suspension.

Yeah weapon r's...You didnt cut the bump stops?Or do u even have to?Also i heard sometimes the brake caliper has to be removed it that true? what do u mean by strap? could i just put a c clamp on em and just let it off slow? How long do u think it would take for all 4?
Ohh, so you got Weapon-R's too huh. Unless their a whole lot different from mine, they might suck a bit.
I put mine on without raising the locking nuts on the perch and the bottom spring compressed all the way, maybe thats not the right way to do it but thinking logical, if you screwed them upwards it would compress it more.
So now, pretty much all my tires sit Under the fender and the main spring has no give at all. So all those little bumps and imperfections in the road, is felt 10x or worse. I dunno if i just put them on wrong or something, but if i put them on the right way they really suck.
As for all the extra items that came with the coil-overs, I've no idea what to do with them. I just put the coil-overs on.
The strap i was talking about is a tie-down or some kind of winch like nylon strap.
Don't know if a c-clamp would work, it would have to be pretty big with some good bite to fit inside the spring without slipping off, cause you won't want that spring popping free without something holding it.

Oh yeah and with the brake caliper, no it doesn't have to be removed.
Btw, when you take the left front suspension apart to put the spring in, the only way you can get it out is to seperate the axle on that side. Your going to want to have some extra time trying to fit that thing in, it's a serious hassle if it's your first time fitting it back in.
I did have to cut the peices that acted as a kind of dust boot on the strut, because they don't fit inside the perch.
The boots in back are plastic and the ones in front metal.

GET A SPRING COMPRESSOR!!!
Right tool for the right job. Springs are no joke. I have heard of some good ol' boys taking their **** off like that and getting seriously injured. A $40 Craftsman spring compressor is better than a trip to the ER in my opinion. If you get the Craftsman one, make sure you have a nice rubber mallet to 'seat' the clamps into the spring.
As far as taking the axle out, I don't think you need to do that. Just take the drop fork off of the bottom of the shock, once you have loosened the drop fork from the lower control arm of course, and work with the shock until it comes out. That's how I did it. It took some patience though.
When installing, put the perch and spring over the shock and get it situated in the shocks 'seat' (perch sit's in the seat). Put the rubber piece that fits in the top hat back on and then put the hat back on. You shouldn't have to use the spring compressor (at least I didn't on my EF hatch). Hope this helps you out some.
