OMFG Please HELP!!!!!!
SO I'm pulling my Y1 tranny to put in a GSR YS1. My friend just bought an LS teggy, so I tell him to come over as I need an extra set of hands and he needs to learn how to take care of his car. I get my clutch cable off, the VSS out, the back-up light connection, shift linkage, etc. I have the cover off the flywheel. The only thing I had to do was pull the bolts holding it on and drop it out.
Here's where the problem happened. I went in the house to ****, wash up slightly so I could make a sandwich and grab a beer. In that order. I come outside to find my pinhead friend TIGHTENING the top most forward bolt w/ my 3' cheater bar! "He says I got this one and this other one loose, but they don't want to come out."
After disposing of the body(J/K), I assessed the damages. He stripped about 3 threads out of the first hole, and 4 or 5 out of the block. I pulled the remaining 7 bolts w/o incident.
So what should I do? Do I have it heli-coiled, or can I get it tig welded and re-tapped(<----Is this even an option?)? Please help. I'm thinking about pulling my motor now.

Damn, I would have it taken to a machine shop and have my friend pay to have it fixed. Who doesn't know left to lose and right to tight? People these day, anyways helicoil should work but I don't know if I would trust that many of my bolts to be coiled.
Dont worry about it!
You still have 7 good bolts holding it on. Where my block bolts to the tranny the block is stripped in 2 holes and it does just fine.
Helicoil it though since you have it apart. Those things are hella strong. Just buy a kit, you drill it out, thread it, then screw in the heli and bam your done.
Only reason i didnt do that was because i was just undoing a bolt because i had a mounting bar bolted there that i no-longer need.
Its not that big of a deal

Don't even worry about that 1 bolt.
Heli-coils cost $ (about $40 for the kit for ONE size).

Heli-coil that ****. I know of some domestic V-8 guys that run aluminum blocks that use heli-coils for their head bolt threads, because the threads are stronger than the aluminum. So I would trust the heli-coils just from that being said.
As for your friend, hit both of his hands with the 3foot breaker bar untill every bone in his hand are shattered, that way he can't ever do such a stupid thing again. Where do you find these people, really man?

Heli coil will work and is actually stronger if done correctly (larger surface area made of steel rather than aluminum.
Only one better option and that is a Time-Sert which is like a heli coil only more so. It's a solid thread replacement barrel rather than a loose spring of thread. Check it out, but it's more expensive

I had to use a time-sert kit before.... they are really great.

Did you do it yourself, or take it to a machine shop?
