Here are my symptoms.
Under light shifting I only press the clutch pedal down partially and it shifts perfectly.
Under hard shifting I press the clutch all the way down and I get a terrible grinding noise. Is this possibly the fingers of the diaphram pushing into the flywheel.
Or is it that at higher RPM's the clutch squeals because it is not being lifted entirely from the flywheel. Either way the noise is only when the clutch is disengaged (pressed down) for a brief moment until selecting the next gear. (It is not a tranny grind)
Either way, which way would I turn the rod attatched to the clutch pedal that goes in the master cylinder. Turned in would do what and turned out does what?
Thanks for your help guys I appreciate and need it.

It is only high rpms, because when I am shifting at high RPMs I am ussualy on it and want to get to the next gear quick so I have habit of nailing the clutch pedal all the way to the floor.
When i am just shifting around town, normal driving, I only push the clutch in partially and I don't get any noise.
Cliff Notes:
Pedal pressed all the way to the floor- Grinding noise
Pedal pressed in partially- no grindage.

screw the rod out
the rod is being pushed in too far, and pushing on the fingers of the pressure plate too much
screw it out, and the problems should go away
try adjusting it where its quiet, and you can run your car and listen for the rattling when the pedal is all the way down, keep turning till the noise goes away, even give it an extra 1/4 or 1/2 turn

I agree about the pressure plate rubbing on the disc causing the problem. As you say the rod is travelling too far. When I said to screw it farther in, I'm referring to the piece on the end of the rod that attaches to the clutch pedal. Screw this piece farther down on the rod, in other words, screw the rod farther into this piece. Which shortens the throw of the clutch pedal and stops the fingers on the pp from contacting the disc.

You guys are awesome I appreciate the advice.
One more question though. DanGSR suggested I listen for the rubbing noise with the pedal all the way down as I adjust the "throw" of the pedal. It only makes the noise at a higher rpm.
By the way it is a Exedy Clutch. I will shorten the throw and see if that helps. Thanks a lot guys.

More help required.
Ok, I went out to mess around with that rod this morning. How in the hell do you break locknut "C" in the helms manual loose?
It just turns the rod that goes into the master cylinder. I had some huge channel locks on the rod and there is no easy way to hole the rod tight and turn the nut with the limited space under there. Any ideas??

I had this same problem and it turned out to be the motor torquing on the mounts too much.
I bought some ES motor mount inserts and the problem went away.

I have Hasport mounts. But I did notice on the drivers side upper mount. THe mount itself seems to have maybe a 1/10 of an inch of free play between the mount and the metal mounting area.
I tried breaking the locknut loose under the dash laying on my back and finally got fed up and pulled the clutch master cylinder off the car to do it.
