Default I think my clutch went? :(

I was coming off the highway and I tried down shifting from 4th to 3rd but clutch grinded all the way could I have damaged anything else besides my clutch, like the flywheel and or master cylinder slave?

some back ground: for about 2 years now my clutch grinded a lil bit going into third gear at higher RPMS I was told it was my bearings.

its not your clutch. most likely your sync gears. that or if you slave cylinder is leaking like mine, then sometimes doesnt disengage as quick, which then leads to a grind, which then damages that sync gear that much more.

if your clutch went out, then you would have a hell of a time moving at all. forwards, backwards, whatever. just wouldnt accelerate or transfer much power to make the car move.

now that you say syncro's it rings a bell, and it is that. the car has 190,250 miles on it and the tranny. I bought the car with 33,000 miles on it. My fault the syncro's have been grinding since 2001.

The car was smoking today and I smelt stuff burning as drove off the highway then the clutch peddle stuck on the floor and the car shut off. I could start the car but I couldn't shift into gear

well time for a new tranny and clutch. funny though, wondering how the clutch would stop the motor from working. what would cause this problem, the smoking is def not the tranny though.
someone might know i'm interested

well didnt you say that it grinded all the way through the gears, that wouldnt be a clutch issue if it grinded then it has to do with shot synchros and the metal in the tranny

Grinding sounds would not be related to the clutch, its seperated from grinding parts, especially at shifts. But the clutch can burn and smoke. So since you said there was grinding and smoke, it most likely means you need a new tranny AND clutch.

*EDIT*

You will want to check all clutch and tranny components to prevent this from happening in the future, for example: Master and Slave cylinder, clutch fluid, etc.

yea man, kind of a combination of both

gl with that man. you could always try getting a new clutch, and if the tranny is bad get a new one as well hope everything goes alright with you, at least you dont have to get your car reffed cause a cop cant determine anything in your engine bay.
