Default Replacing steering box

I have a 92 si, and the power steering box is leaking. i used probably 1 bottle of Honda steering fluid in 3 weeks, then it stopped losing it. last weekend, when i turned all the way to the left, it would make a high pitch humm, sounded like a muffled horn, then as i straightened out, it would sound like metal scraping. did it 4 times, not anymore.

any ideas what the noises were, and how hard is it to install a new box?

i don't want to convert to manual steering, just wanna fix what i have

how hard is it to change the rack? i can grab one from a junkyard no problem, they have plenty there...i'm not expecting it to be an hour thing, i'm sure there's plenty involved

it'll take a while, hope you got access to a lift. wheels off, disconnect tie rod ends, ps lines from rack. there's a bracket on the pass. side that you need to remove, disconnect the steering rack input shaft that goes into the car. this can be a bit of a pain, drop the subframe and lower the steering rack until the input shaft is out that about sums it up, like i said its not a amateur task, it'll help if you have a friend or 2 to help. haynes manual always handy. good luck.
