Help> Problems with VTEC cross over at light throttle.
So not too sure how to explain my issue, but when I engage my VTEC (4500) under light throttle, the engine seems to go all powerless. It seems like its an air issue, or exhaust issue. I know im not explaining well, but any insight is greatly appreciated.

Could very well be a lack of oil pressure. You may want to check your oil pump, and the filters on your VTEC pressure switch/solenoid. If you don't have enough oil pressure, VTEC won't engage. That's why it doesn't work till your car has warmed up. Someone else may have a better explanation/reason why your having this problem.
I do engage VTEC under light throttle, but it just appears/sounds like an exhaust back pressure issue. Hard to explain.
Can someone clarify the vtec solenoid filter? I hadn't heard of this before?
Thanks,
YV

pull your solenoid. 3 bolts. You will imediately see the screen.
Remove the gasket, (the screen is part of the gasket) then spray it with brake cleaner.
Then remove the spool valve, and there will be another gasket/screen. Clean it.
Use gasket sealer, put it back together.

so i took the bolts off and removed the soleniod. To my surprise, i did not see a screen, only a gasket. so i cleaned them and preesed in the soleniod to see if it was smooth and all seemed cool. why would my '01 not have a screen?

not sure about the last comment...
But I think I have figured out the problem. I hooked my wideband up and monitored what happens around the engagement point and the A/F mix is around 9:6.1 (Super rich). I was having another problem (see: https://honda-tech.com/zerothread?id=1034323) and I am pretty confident that they are connected. Im guessing that because its too rich, its misfiring and thats where I get the engine to bumble.
any thoughts?
