Default VTEC "Kick In" RPM change?

Is it possible for VTEC to hit at different rpms? The previous owner of this car installed a VTEC engagement LED light in the gauge cluster area so I know for sure when it kicks in other than just the sound and pull. I have a 95 gsr with a jdm b18c (sir-g) engine in it (which i believe normally hits VTEC at 4600). Every time I'm giving it 75% throttle or more it engages at 4600, but sometimes if I take the car up to the VTEC range slowly (maybe about 30% throttle) it wont engage until up to 5000 rpms. The oil level is fine (top dot) so I don't know if this is normal or not. Any helps good. Thanks

alot of people dont realize that vtec is not engaged by a certain rpm. vtec engages when the oil pressure is at the proper point.

most of the time, the oil pressure is high enough to activate the vtec pin and lobes at the same time the rpm's hit the vtec point of "engagement", which in your case is 4600. it is possible, and very likely, that the oil pressure is not high enough to activate vtec at 4600, or wherever the rpm point may be and may take a little longer for the oil pressure to reach the levels that is nessecary for vtec to engage.

with your car, the rpms say that vtec should activate at 4600, but the oil pressure may need a little higher revving in order to vtec to engage, which is why it sometimes vtec comes on a little later in the motor's rpms, 5000.

yeah its normal.
under light throttle (through the tps) vtec engages later.
And if your car dont have 50psi of pressure at 4600 rpms, then you got bigger problems...after 3000rpms the pump should have full pressure (70 or more)
