car wont rev past 6800
your car has to be in safe mode for some reason. Maybe you have a soft code somewhere. Ive had the code61 for a long time and ive never gone into safe mode because of it. Try pulling the code again...sometimes its a ghost code. My car was in safe mode for almost 2 months before it would give up any codes. turned out to be the VSS.
does the vtec engage wenever its supposed to?....if it doesnt try the usual....check oil pressure....clean vtec solonoid....theres a whole page on it on the board somewhere, but if it is engaging then i dono
I'm having prob. with mine also. At around 6800 the car feels like its cutting out. I'm going to change to a msd sci plus ignition and blaster 2 coil to see if that helps. I've gone through and changed plugs, rotor cap, button, wires, egr valve( had a cell for it), replaced second O2 sensor( had a cell for it, but I messed that up), I now have a cell for the number 1 O2 sensor. I also had the vtec solonoid cleaned. I'm blowing alot of soot latly which I understand all Preludes run rich. But I have 103,000 miles so maybe the carbon build up in my exhaust components like my cat have something to do with it, I don't know. If I ever get it fixed which I WILL DO someday I'll let you know.
got my cel's checked out still the same ones, map sensor and secondary o2 sensor. ive noticed everytime i turned off my car it sounds like a frying pan like oil popping and stuff?? also there is alot of steam that comes out inbetween the intake manifold and block.
also can a bent vavle be causing this to happen???

One thing you've got is a water leak somewhere behind the engine, causing the noise and steam...

i know it would cause the steam but how could it cause that noise?

I had the same problem uin my lude it turned out to be the wire to the vtec solenoid was unplugged and i was still having the problem once in a while, so i took of the solenoid and cleaned the deris from the screen and checked the valve, NOT a problem since.
It could possibly be your crank shaft sensor that has gone out or maybe a wire burnt out on it....Awhile back with my other Prelude, it would rev past 4000rpms and it kept throwing a sensor code, come to find out, it was the crank shaft sensor. Its not that hard to replace, as long as you have air tools
i took off and cleaned the vtec solenoid, the problem still hasnt gone away.
i didnt think it was the vtec solenoid in the first place b/c i didnt have a cell for it, but just thought id try. if a wire was cut or disconnected would i get a cel?Modified by 99bb6 at 6:20 PM 9/17/2004
