AHHHH I'm not in math class right now. Dont make me do math now! I would say it probably uses no more than 1 gallon for every 5 miles, and that is a extremely high guess. The heat doesnt put any load on the engine, the a/c does. The heater runs off of the hot coolant(who ever said TV doesnt teach you anything is an asshat ) that is why you have to wait for the car to warm up before you turn it on. Otherwise it will blow cold air at you. The a/c runs off the compressor witch is belt driven from the engine.

when i had my safc i noticed that when i turn on the ac i had to push the gas %20 more to keep the same speed.

so im gonna guess to take off 20% from your gas milage...

In fact, your driving habits will play a much larger role in determining fuel consumption than your air conditioning will. I personally don't notice any difference in my fuel economy with or without the A/C on . . . my Civic Si pretty consistently does 28-30mpg combined.

Also, using the heater does not affect fuel economy whatsoever. Using the air conditioning potentially can, because it is belt driven and therefore is a parasitic drag on the engine when it is engaged.

Fuel consumption is not determined by throttle position alone. There are many more factors - one particularly major factor being RPM - that play a role.

 

how u know it was 20% and not 25%......?

 

Running the heater if anything will give you more power ,because its like turning on second rad. That will make your engine cooler giver you more power.

As for the AC it will drop your mileage down alittle but a light(or heavy right foot) makes more of a difference.

I get 30-31 mpg highway with the windows down and no AC. I get 29-31 mpg highway with the windows up and AC. I would say that the AC and the windows prpbably cancel out, I just don't like AC unless it is really hot.

They say A/C systems, on average, consume 25%-30% more fuel when running. I would know, my A/C is on everyday and all day. 95* weather isn't nice.

That is definitely bullshit. If that were true, it would mean my mileage would decrease from 30mpg to ~21-23mpg with the A/C on, which it most certainly does not.

 

I wish i could dyno it, to prove that what seem like a idiot comment is true. Go run with your the heat on, in both my cars there is a noticable power increase. Just remember my butt dyno is very calibrated and yours may not be.

I believe Ricey said it best. Butt dyno tuning your car can cause more damage to it than spending money on real dyno tuning.(somthing along those lines) Moral of the story is..................... DONT butt tune your car.
