Does anyone know a lot on 2000 Preludes?
Hi everybody I had a few questions concerning my 2000 Prelude. Lately their has been some problems with my engine and i'm not too sure what caused it. First let me tell you how it happened...
Immediately when I installed my Greddy-catback exhaust the check engine light and ATTS light both went on. At first my friends said it was probably a damaged O2 sensor but when I took it to a shop they said it was because my valves were too tight. So I had them fixed it for me and the light went off...for like two days
. I finished off my exhaust with a new high-flow catalack converter, weapon R header and down pipe but the check engine light and ATTS light is still on.
Again I took it to the shop and they said they could fix it but now they want at least a $1,000 to do it because they need to take my engine apart and retune the third valve. Also they told me that my engine had some random misfires and out of the five codes my engine has their was four that were damaged.
This shop that I had been taken it too is a small shop out in the cuts and was highly recomended by my friend, but again I didn't trust these guys from day one. They were nice people but I could tell they were trying to blow smoke up my *** and have me waste my money on them.
Did anybody else here have this problem or if not can someone help me find a solution.
thanks I really would appreciate it

the ATTS light has nothing to do with your valves. Have you lowered your car at all? also, pull the code from the CEL (search for how to do this) and tell us what code comes up.

since ur car is obd2, take it to autozone and ask them for a diagnostics. its free and they'll tell u wats wrong with ur car. then u can go back to the shop and tell them to **** off
If you throw any kind of CEL like on a type SH the atts light will kick on reguardless if there is no atts error.
jump the service connector, pull the codes and post them.
1 long blink = 10
1 short blink = 1

The dealership I baught the car from did say the past owner had it lowered and that he did try to restore the car back to regular height but you can easily tell that the car is not at stock height anymore. My friend has a 98'lude and when you compare them side by side mine is about half an inch lower.
and this may sound stupid but the "CEL" you were talking about is that the box thats under the floor in the passegner side? and when you turn your car on the light should blink so many times if you had a problem right? if so ill try to open the box again tonight and post the results.
thanks all your guys help may have saved me a $1,000.

get an adjustable wrench, a jack and a jack stand.
remove the o2 sensors from their bungs (holes they are screwed into). blow on them a lot. if you want, take and spray a little WD40 on the metal part. let them dry, blow on them again. insert them back into the bungs. un hook the battery for 10 minutes. hook it back up. turn the car on and drive around. watch as the codes do NOT return.

This was the problem it came up with when I did the blinking CEL test
Code 67..."Catalyst System Efficiency Below Threshold"
- Three way Catalytic Converter
- Secondary HO2S sensor
Also last night I unplugged my battery for 10mins and gave my O2 sensor a GOOD cleaning but this mourning the check engine light and ATTS light popped right back on again while I was driving.
I think the problem may be my high flow "mEgan" catalack converter I installed. Im not sure, but is all the high flow cats supposed to be just a huge straight through pipe?
Again thanks everybody for your help all you guys have been really helpfull

yeah i'd definitely say it was your "cat".
you can either put the stock one back on, or get an O2 sim.

Alright I put my old catalack converter on and it seemed to make it worst. When I did the CEL test again it gave me more problems, not only did my engine light blink (code67) but my ATTS light now blinks (code51, 43, 35, 72, 18, 43, 42). Also the ABS light gave out the (code53, 54, 81).
How should I go about handling this now?

I haven't lowered it but I think the past owner did, because the car sits lower than my friends Lude.
The only emmission mods I have done are the "Greddy Catback Exhaust", "mEgan high flow cat" (just took it out), and a "WeaponR Header + DownPipe".
Other performance mods I had put on my car are AEM Pulley Kit, MSD Ignition Wires, and a AEM Cold Air Intake.
This car has been giving me so many problems lately that i'm starting to lose hope in it.

Thanks preludedriver99sh, i'll study up on the workaround mod.
Will this just turn off the light and over-look the problem or will it fix it permanently?
