Default Changing clutches...

I'm getting ready to change my clutch out, but I had a couple of questions. As it is, my clutch is so gone that if im crusing at like 2500 in 3rd, and floor it, it just revs up to redline until i get off the gas and it grabs again.. so that's question number one. if its that bad, how much longer do you think i have before its undrivable?

Secondly, if I'm going to change the clutch, I'm going to get a better one that what I have (which is OEM). It's my understanding that a lot of the performance clutches require a lightweight flywheel as well. So I poked around NOPI and eBay a bit, and someone on ebay is selling a brand new Exedy clutch + XACT 8lb flywheel for like $470. Hows that sound? I'm not familiar with either brand... What do you guys think? I'm not very skillful in the tranny department, so I'm probably going to have a transmission place take care of the labor. any thoughts?

do NOT buy an EBAY EXEDY CLUTCH.....it is not the one that the HONDA-TECH Sponsors sell....it is a less clutch.....

get a clutch from a HTsponsor....and flywheel...

Go with the ACT clutch...the HDSS model, the Heavy Duty Street Strip clutch....it will be ample enough for you, awesome clutch. If you get a lightened flywheel get it the same time as the clutch so they can be replaced at the same time. But if you keep your stock flywheel check it for hot spots and if needed get it resurfaced(costs around $40-$50). The clutch costs about $270...and 10% on this thread....

yes they are just the OEM upgrade, 10% as opposed to 69% tq capacity increase...i almost bought one too

Thanks! good info. do you recommend a flywheel? also how much do you think I'd pay (on average, i guess) to have the clutch/flywheel replaced?

For the flywheel it depends on what you're doing...If it's just for everyday driving and casual trips to the track I would go for the streetlite flywheel or save your money and stay stock. I see most people going with an 8 lb flywheel and are happy. I stuck with a stock flywheel and I was happy with it. As for the price for install I wouldn't know, I installed mine myself.

No need for the flywheel - but make sure to resurface yours before dropping in the new clutch.

How much for a clutch install - well, me and the old man got it done in about 5 hours, start to finish. That was with air tools too. So if you took it to a shop, maybe 3-400 for labor - just a guess though (using around 60-70/hour).
