Thinking about an R !
Im new to the site and right now i have a 98 Mitsu fully built GSX. I am selling/trading it in place of extremely clean type R or GSR with low miles. I havnt ridden in an R but i drive a LS teg for my daily right now. I have always loved integras especially gsr's and R's. Why should i steer away from one and go to another (gsr and R) I will be going to college soon and cant take my gsx due to gas mileage and im looking for something more on the stock side. Give me some pointers on what to look for or anything to try and convince me to get an R.. Thanks Guys
don't get one if you're going to college. i say store the gsx or sell it and get a cheap beater until you have money so you can have the R during springs/summers.

Ummmmm...not keep it, it might buy you 30 secs though.

I'm in college driving an aaR.
although I bought myself a garage with a few rooms attatched to it for it to sleep in....some call it a house. I feel a little safer, but hey that's what fulll coverage is for. It's just a car anyway.

gsrs are stolen just as much.
so if your going to be a typical R owner and just let theives take your car, then you might as well get the best for the time being and have fun while it lasts.
A 1400 alarm is only as good as its installer. And there arent too many good installers out there.

If your going to conform to the da-R-k side, I say go for it. I've owned three GS-R's and they can't compare to owning an R. It's like comparing apples to dog ****. Arghs are pretty sick!
The usual will need to be taken. Check to see if it leaks oil, burns oil...you know the usual. After your satisfied with the mechanics, start asking the owner about service history and if he has a lead foot. You can get a carfax report and check his driving record to see if he's blowing smoke up your ***.
Do a visual inspection of the car. Do the body panels line up? How do the bumpers look? How do the inside of the tires look?
In my 97 R (I don't know if this goes for the other years) there is a little honda sticker attached to every single body panel with the vin number on it. Are these stickers there? If so, do they all match?
Did the guy part the **** out of the car? Like I'm doing now? (Bad Brando! Bad, Bad, Bad!)
Talk to the guy a few times and think about what kind of vibe you got from him and what he said. Bring a trusty friend, and tell him not to say a word while you talk to the guy and look at the car. When done, have your friend spill his guts on what he thought.
A car is a big purchase, The R is rare. Make sure you don't get screwed!

If you need convincing than the car isn't for you.

I dont understand why a lot of people on this board seem to think that. Driving an R and going to college...is about the same thing as driving your R and living in your home town. If you are living on campus, half the time..its a lot safer than anywhere else your car will be. Whats the point in having a Type R if all you are worried about is it getting stolen..that would take away a lot of the fun for me at least. If hes that worried, he can get a decent alarm and a glock.

I owned a gst for the first couple of months of my first year in college. It was a lot of fun except for the fact that noone knew what a blow off valve was, but then i got a gsr. That was fun, I got into autocross with some guys at school. Now I am driving an R. There is really no comparison from the gsr and the type R. I had almost all of the bolt ons for the gsr and had a semi complete suspension (illuminas, springs, Type R rear sway bar) Now that I have the R, with almost completely stock everything, it completely blows the gsr away in every aspect. Now for the college part, I am fortunate to go to school where not a lot of people know a whole lot about cars/ theft is not major. I would say go test drive both cars and realistically ask yourself if you will be willing to go the extra step to ensure your car remains both safe and unharmed while your at school. I have had no problems and love my R more then just about anything else.
