Honda Prelude 1984 1.8 EX torque graph
Hi all,
I'm new in the group. So I would like to say hello to everyone
But now let's get down to business. I recently bought 1984 2nd generation Prelude with dual carb 1.8 engine. The car is in good condition and well maintained and suits perfectly to be a "hobby car".
Although I have some questions. Has anyone seen the torque graph of this engine? It feels like something is not how it should be as after 4000 rpm the engine feels to lose power. It does nicely from 2500 rpm on, but there really isn't much after 4000. Maybe the engine characteristics are configured so that it has more power on lower rev's?
Does someone have any possible explanations to this situation. Any helo will be greatly appreciated.

I have never seen a torque graph for that engine, but having owned one I wouldn't expect to see much. The car was very reliable, and fun to drive but it had absolutely no power. As far as the power falling off quickly I honestly don't remember as it has been ~5 years since I owned mine. I don't know what to say about your situation. I sold mine with 260k miles and it was still going strong. If you ever get the chance go drive a Si of that body style do it, the difference is HUGE!
When I was puttin around town in my 85 1.8L dual carb base Lude I had a great time .. it was a zippy little car, not HUGE power but enough to have lots of fun .
As far as power after 4000 rpm ... yea, yous hould feel it a bit but it quickly dies off .. I think it gets most around 3000 ...
do a search on some 3gen/2gen prelude forums, talk to a guy named rjudgey .. he's the man on that motor.

Hey! you got a Quaalude!
I don't think the A-series made much power up top. 2nd gen 'ludes always felt like they had too much flywheel effect to me. Like they lurch off the line real well but rev poorly.
If it has a nice interior watch out! A few domestic guys I know fell in love with a set of Quaalude seats in a Nova and are trying to find another set.
