Default Raising Compression w/o Cams or timing?

In HC non-hybrid you are allowed to raise compression by .5:1, but you are not allowed to change cams or cam timing. Is it worth it to raise the compression in the H22A1 w/o changing cams? The answer to raising compression in the H22A1 is best solved by head work, head gasket or pistons? I apologize for my ignorance with the H series engines
