Default n00b: Can we start a table of swaps for crx's? lil help for a buddy. :)

OK I'm a vw driver, but a friend of mine (has no internet) is a HUGE honda fanatic. He has a civic, but wants to sell it for a crx si... so basically i'm helping him out with his project plans since i've been surfing many forums for along time... i figure i could get him the info required to perform this swap, and to choose the right motor.

So, with the up most maturity please, does anyone want to input some MATURE engine swap ideas?

maybe we can start just getting stats down?

ie:
motor name? maybe a brief description of the motor? (dohc, sohc, ect)
found in what car?
typical costs?
power? tq?
swap complications?
wiring?

basic pros and cons... ie, throw in any input, like, which motors are ideal for boosted applications.

I'm pretty sure he wants an all motor crx that hauls... if he can beat my car i'm sure he'd be happy, but i think he wants it even faster... then he can actually run his car at the legal drags instead of watching...

Hopefully we can get a good thread going with solid info for others to search in the future... i searched and found lots of good stuff... but alot of bickering which confused me more than anything.

oh and if you care, i drive an 83 vw gti rabbit, i swapped in a 2L 16V motor, with the stock close ratio tranny.. fun car, but it breaks alot, 1000 dollar motor, another 1000 in swap, fun stuff..

anyway, all input is greatly appreciate, and i promise when he gets the project goin, i'll take lots of pics

OH and one last thing, typical issues with each swap into the crx is great too, ie typical wiring issues, motor mounts, linkages? maybe links to places that sell kits for things liket he motor mounts?

thanks guys, sorry about the lengthy post.. and if this is the wrong forum i apologize.

How fast does your car run?

I mean how fast is he looking to go all motor?

He can run 13's on a stock ITR (Integra Type R...195 HP. B18c5 is the engine code) motor in a CRX.

Mine's nothing to rave about, haven't officially had it reliable enough to hit the track, but probably mid 15's, if i strip it down (has full interior) and practice i'm sure i could go faster .

I think he'd be more than happy with 13's lol!!!.. Money is somewhat of an issue, it's more of a fast street car but within reason.
how much he wants to spend? i dunno, but i think he was intrested in some kind of B16 or B18.. vtec is probably a must hehe

http://www.hmotoronline.com has a lot of swaps with linkages, motor mounts and all the stuff you need. There is a swap that has everything for a 88-91 crx that starts at $1499 I believe. It is the b16a1, which is a 1.6 liter DOHC VTEC and there is a lot of info on this site. That would probably be the most recomended way to go.

If he wants cheap he can get a b16 swap...everything needed for about 2k. Probably even less if he shops around.

That will put him into the solid 14's. Some good drivers have been able to hit 13.9xxxx @ 96-97 MPH, but honestly these are pretty rare.

Most drivers are running mid/high 14's with a b16 swap.

^Thanks, ya that's what i was thinking, i heard the B18 has more torque, but i'm new to hondas.. and i assume the b18 is more costly and not worth it?

the B18 is indeed more expensive. It's over 2x the cost if you go with a GSR (b18c1). That'd make for a great street car, though. You're looking at at least $2500 for a GSR motor.

You can get a B18a (DOHC Non VTEC)from a USDM 90-93 Integra. ~140 HP, ~120-125 ft lbs TQ...but the engines are usually going to be very high mileage and pretty beat.

yikes, these motors are so expensive... but they do make ALOT of power for their size... well i'll show him the thread, hopefully he goes b16 and then hopefully we can discuss that swap in more detail

This article will help...it's old and dated by internet standards, but most of the information is sound:

ITR headers, custom ground ITR cams, mugen chipped pr3 ecu and brand spanking new pr3 distributor (almost $500 direct from japan). runs sound, perfect daily driver and fairly quick, but my DUMBASS wants to go TURBO LS (out with the old, in with the new). anyway, email me if youre interested @ bdizzle13@msn.com. just make an offer and ill get back at you. BTW im in Maryland, Baltimore area. sorry for tryna sell my **** in here guys, but this guy sounds pretty interested, just thought id let him get in on a pretty good deal.
