Default I need opinions plz ASAP-y8 head and block

i went and checked out a local guy selling a y8 head and block. he bought the whole motor from a local shop(with from what i hear a good reputation. no personal experience). he bought it just for the manifolds etc. he was aware of the fact that the previous owner had used nitrous and had caused a detonation or a ring failure( i think thats what he also called it) in cylnder 3.

there is a chip missing out of the piston in cylinder 3, and its pretty rough on the top. the wall seems perfect tho.

i'm interested in the head. my friend wants the block so ill prolly just sell the block to him.

on the head. you could tell which cylinder had the detonation or whatever cuz on the underside where the valves were it was noticably darker and the bottoms of the valves felt rough. but we sprayed some kind of cleaner and it turned out it was just carbon build up. the bottom of the valves were just as smooth as the rest. all the valves in that particular cylinder were closed and seemed to seal perfect. no chips or nics or anything in them.

if you could give me some ideas on what to check for before i buy this that would be MUCH appreciated. i haven't done internal work yet so i didn't know what to look out for. i spent a good hour and half there with him looking it all over and talking about it.

here are some pics. i know they are bad i'm sorry but maybe they will help you help me

thank you guys !

btw i need to get back to him in a day or two cuz there are other people biting at it but he said he would give me first dibs.

p.s- he's asking 100 for the head and the block. head is complete with valve cover and vtec solenoid-anything else it should have on there?

Definately go for it! I'd pay more than 100 bucks for a complete head with intake mani, so you can't really beat that.

my main concern/question is what caused this piston to chip and get scored .

What makes you think it's a chip and not the melting of the piston?

ehi guess it could just be melted. when i was looking at it i thought it was chipped and broken. so if its melted thats from the detonation that occured?

ok i asked him if he could take it to his local shop to have a leak test done. and that i could spot him for half the cost of it.

he said that he priced it so low because he really doesn't have the time to take it and have that done. he needs it gone so he priced it to sell in one day.

now i've got a sad face on
i don't know what i should do but i have to let him know by tonight cuz others are asking about it but he's giving me first dibs
