Default The legendary 3rd gear synchro grind

My Y21 is grinding now into 3rd allt he time. It used to do it once in a blue moon if i shifted hard, now above 6k, its a little grind. I was thinking of getting new gear oil for the synchros so maybe that helps or maybe just flushing the tranny fluid bc that has not been done for a while! BTW, super duper noob question, were is the dip stick for the tranny oil in the b18c?

Eddie

There is none, to check fluid level you have to remove the fill hole bolt and feel inside. Switching to gm synchromesh or the penzoil equivalent has helped many people, but dont expect it to work 100%.

I really don't know of any manual transmissions that have dipsticks. I'm not saying they aren't out there but I haven't encountered one. Whatever it is its probably foriegn
Anyways you'll just drain it. You'll use a 3/8 ratchet and remove the drain plug. Then I think its a 17mm or 19mm will remove the fill hole plug. Fill it up until oil starts leaking out. I think its about 2.5 us quarts.

You have more than a fluid fix. The GM stuff will buy you some time if the problem isn't too bad. Give it a try and see what it does for you
