is it necessary to aggressively set your timing to the verge of knocking??....
i've heard somewhere that it may not be beneficial to set timing so agressive that it's right under the verge of knocking. (not only to save the engine, but there's no significant horsepower gain)
WITHOUT A DYNO, the only way i know to tuning the iginition portion of the engine is to advance timing until you hear knocking (obviously not groups at a time but per zone) and then retard 1 degree. is this the best way to optimize horsepower?
for some motors, i've heard that there are no horsepower gain past a certain point. and it could be way below the threshold so there's no reason to set the timing that far. or is the ONLY way to test this theory is to compar different timing senerios at the dyno?
i'll eventually run the car on the dyno, but i want to set everything up so i can maximize the time i have there.
thoughts? comments?

check out http://www.boosted-hybrid.com and read up on the forums. Read up on as much as you can on tuning. Its best to read all about standalone tuning than to just ask 1 question that you have about tuning. Because you will never learn anything NEW since you won't know better to ask questions about things you may not even know exists.
