which tie rod??
ok i have a problem that i need to fix, it;s been buggin me for a while. i have a 91 civic hatch, that has a tie rod problem. my problem is i need to know if its the inner or outer tie rod?? main symptom is the steering is real "loose" all most like i have to drive with both hands, and if i hit a bump or if the pavement "splits" and the car goes all over the place.??? oh and i did search 1st but i cant get a deff answer if its the inner or outer tie rod?
Could be either one. Lift up the front of the car. Grab a tire & try to 'steer' it. If there's looseness, reach around to the little ball joint at the end of the tie rod. Is it loose; does it move against itself? Check the other side.
If the looseness is inside the rack, you still gotta decide whether it's the inboard tie rod vs. looseness at the pinion.
